New Dimes
Freelance, Branding Design
2021When Kristen Brilliantes and Renna Al-Yassini reached out to me with their new joint project called New Dimes, I was all in. Both women had formerly worked with Google Ventures and started their own respective businesses. Now they were now looking to create an intentional community for financially-minded women, with a focus on immigrants and women of color who are often overlooked in these spaces.
As the daughter of immigrants and a financial planner, I was always taught the importance of financial independence and felt very passionately about the mission of their project. Together, we developed a bold and colorful visual system anchored by a simple “dime” piece. We wanted the brand to feel vibrant and fresh without leaning too hard into tropes of femininity or girl boss vibes that dominated the 2010 financial literacy landscape.
In addition to the logo, I designed an entire library of easy-to-edit templates for workbooks, Google Slides presentations, and social media posts, as well as the Squarespace landing page. Instead of traditional illustrations, I developed a system of micro-collages using the dime as a center piece, along with a set of vibrating patterns used as the backdrop for social media posts and other branded collateral.
